In order to comply with the aims and objectives of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Society of Ireland (CWCSI), members agree to abide by the following:

1.  Purchase their Cardigan Welsh Corgi from a reputable breeder and not a pet shop.

2.  Properly feed, accommodate, exercise and provide veterinary care as and when required for the total well being of your Cardigan Corgi or any other animal in your care.

3.  Not allow their dogs to roam freely without proper control and supervision. Ensure that all dogs are on leads in public places and have a properly tagged collar containing the name and address and telephone number of the owner in the event of your dog straying.

4.  Ensure that your dogs are not a nuisance to neighbours or people calling to your premises on official business.

5.  Fulfill your obligations to clean up after your dog in public places and to encourage others to do the same.

6.  Accept that any dog that you own will only be used for breeding if it is free from hereditary disease or conditions by encouraging owners and breeders to have hips and elbows checked. In the case of PRA, certified line clear would be sufficient. DNA testing of dogs used for breeding purposes without hereditary clear status is encouraged and recommended.

7.  Bitches should ideally not be bred from until they are at least 15 months of age. The bitch owner must have sufficient time to care for the bitch and her puppies and give them the proper feeding, care and attention.

8.  Stud dogs offered must be proven sires and in good health. An exception to this would be a potential stud dog used with the agreement of the bitch owner in order to become proven.

9.  All bitches accepted for your stud dog must in the opinion of the stud dog owner be in good health and suitable for breeding. The bitch should be capable of producing puppies that would be a good representation of the breed. The bitch must also be evaluated as to suitability and capability of rearing a litter. The owner of the bitch must be deemed to have sufficient time to care for the bitch and her puppies and give them proper feeding, care and attention.

10.  All care should be taken to endeavour to not knowingly sell puppies or older dogs to dealers, puppy mills or persons who are not able to give the puppy or older dog a permanent home.

11.  Breeders must accept that puppies and older dogs are their responsibility for the lifetime of the Corgi and not just for the 8 or 10 weeks that they are in their care.

12.  When placing puppies or older dogs in their new homes, ensure that all age appropriate vaccinations and worming are done. All relevant paperwork is to accompany the dog, together with proper care instructions for the dog including feeding routines. All health records and instructions regarding vaccinations, booster shots and worming information are to be provided to the new owner.

13.  Not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, or falsely advertise dogs or mislead as to the quality of the dog offered for sale.

14.  Give all new owners as much assistance as is possible to ensure that they have a smooth transition to ownership. Ensure that they do not bring the breed or the CWCSI into disrepute

15.  In the event of changes in circumstances of the purchaser the breeder must assist in the re-homing of the Corgi and not leave the owner with the sole responsibility.
